Description
The IRT has played a substantial role in developing, testing, and certifying methods to prevent ice buildup on aircraft. The facility can produce continuous airspeeds from 350 kts and temperatures as low as -25°F year-round, controllable to within one degree Fahrenheit. Supercooled water droplets between 15 to 50 microns and controllable water content can be produced to form an icing cloud.

Type: Closed-return, atmospheric-type wind tunnel
Test Section: 6-ft high by 9-ft wide by 20-ft long
Temperature: ambient to -25°C (year round)
Airspeed: 50 to 350 kts (continuous)
Water Droplets: 15 to 50 microns
