Human and Autonomous Vehicle Systems Lab

The Human and Autonomous Vehicle Systems (HAVS) lab is used for rapid prototyping of flight system automation and pilot interface concepts with an emphasis on haptic-multimodal interaction. It provides researchers with an accessible, inexpensive tool for quickly prototyping and evaluating advanced concepts. An important feature of the lab is 2 sets of research-quality, programmable force-feedback side-sticks. The sticks are being used to explore the role of haptic (i.e. tactile and force-based bi-directional) interaction along with more conventional modalities (vision, auditory) to enable a fluid, a "horse and rider" like relationship between a pilot and an intelligent aircraft.
