ARMD NRA
In support of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters has released a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for foundational research. The first NRA, titled "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics 2006" (ROA 2006), was opened in May 2006 and solicited foundational research proposals for the four ARMD programs: the Airspace Systems Program, the Aviation Safety Program, the Fundamental Aeronautics Program, and the Aeronautics Test Program.

The second NRA, titled "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics 2007" (ROA 2007), was released in June 2007 and is available at NSPIRES. In the initial release of the ROA 2007 NRA, proposals are requested for the Integrated Intelligent Flight Deck Technology Project, the Integrated Vehicle Health Management Project, and the Integrated Resilient Aircraft Control Project.

The third NRA, titled "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics 2008" (ROA 2008), was released on March 7, 2008, and is available at NSPIRES. In the initial release of the ROA 2008 NRA, proposals are requested for the Supersonics Project under the Fundamental Aeronautics Program. This NRA will be amended in the future to add topics from other program areas.

The following is general information related to the NRA process.
  • The NRA solicitations are released by NASA Headquarters; however, all of the technical work is defined and managed at the Centers by project teams within each of the four program areas (Airspace Systems, Aviation Safety, Fundamental Aeronautics, and the Aeronautics Test Program). The NRA awards originate from the Centers.

  • Competition for NRA awards is full and open.

  • Participation is open to all categories of organizations, including educational institutions, industry, and non-profit organizations.

  • Any information on NRA updates for ROA 2006 will be posted on the ROA 2006 NSPIRES Web site and the ARMD Web site. In addition, updates for ROA 2007 will be posted on the ROA 2007 NSPIRES Web site. ARMD plans to send notifications of NRA updates through the NSPIRES email system for those who requested ARMD updates when they signed up. In order to receive the email notifications, you must be a Registered User of NSPIRES. Instructions to receive email notifications can be found at the NSPIRES Web site. However, note that NASA is not responsible for inadvertently failing to provide notification of a future NRA. Interested Parties are responsible for regularly checking the NSPIRES website for updated NRAs.
