Mr. Randy Bailey
Equivalent Visual Flight Deck Technologies
As an Associate Principal Investigator for the IIFD project, Mr. Bailey
leads a group conducting research, development, test and evaluation of
crew/vehicle interface technologies with the aim of reducing the
propensity for pilot error while at the same time minimizing the risk
associated with pilot errors that may occur. Previously, Randy was the
lead for the development of Synthetic Vision System display concepts for
commercial and business aircraft.
Prior to his work with NASA, Mr. Bailey was the Technical Director of
the Flight Research Group at the Calspan Corporation. His 20 years of
work at Calspan involved research, development, test and evaluation of
flight control, flying qualities, and pilot-vehicle interface
technologies for advanced aircraft, including the development of Head-Up
Display standards for Primary Flight Reference display and the design,
development, and testing of a programmable Helmet-Mounted Display system
for a USAF NF-16 aircraft.
Mr. Bailey is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.S. in
Aerospace Engineering and of the State University of New York at Buffalo
with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
